Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
